Celebrities Ridiculed for Expressing Themselves

Have you ever noticed that the most creative and self-expressive celebrities are some of the most ridiculed in the business? Why can’t music artists, actors, etc. express themselves with the way they look just as much as they do when they are showing off their talent? You go online or happen upon the Style Network or E! Entertainment Television and all you hear about is who was dressed like what and how appealing or appalling their style is. Have a sense of art people. Think of how boring it would be to walk down the street and see everyone wearing uniforms instead of sporting their own look! It’s okay if someone’s style is not aesthetically pleasing to you. This is why you have your own style.

Lady Gaga is one of the most criticized in the business because she is practically a piece of walking performance art. “Oh my gracious! Did you see Lady Gaga on the awards last night with her lacey face?!” Obviously you did and your babbling and complaining about what she was wearing gives her nothing but public acknowledgement and fame. I commend Lady for her music, character, confidence and the fact that she is a great businesswoman- not completely unlike Madonna. She will have me as her fan no matter what she wears as long as she keeps making innovative music!

What’s going on with Adam Lambert fans? You vote for the guy to win American Idol (which he should have), he becomes successful and releases the cover to his new CD and what do his fans have to say? “It’s gay…it looks like Elvis Presley in Drag” or, “It doesn’t really show how fierce or awesome Adam is”. If you check out his cover you will see a close up of Adam wearing well-defined eye makeup and a little hint of lipstick. He looks so beautiful that I don’t know whether I’m completely attracted to him or if I want to look like him! He did the cover as an 80’s tribute and it is obvious that he captured that style very well. He is inspired by eighties music. It’s what makes him tick and it’s part of who he is. Why is it wrong to reflect this? Is it because Adam appears androgynous that makes people nervous?

There is nothing wrong with proudly displaying who you are as a person. There is a time and a place to be completely open with who you are and celebrities have many great opportunities to show what they’re made of. They’re telling you who they are and what inspires them so try to cut them some slack and show your support. After all, variety is the spice of life!
