Big Brother on CBS on DIRECTV - Thursday August 13th recap

It's time for another blog about "Big Brother"  on CBS on Satellite TV. To read my last blog entry, click here. As for today's blog:

I don’t think I’ve ever witnessed a more satisfying episode of “Big Brother.” Last night’s episode was, without a doubt, the icing on the cake to why I love this show so much. It may have taken awhile, but I finally got the payoff I was waiting for – meathead Jessie was cut down to size and evicted from the house.

We all knew that last night was the last opportunity Jeff has to use the power of coup d’etat. He just has to use, I was thinking all week. He just has to. But I was worried he might not. In fact, I was preparing myself for him not using it. After all, it wouldn’t be the first time on this show that the editing led you to believe a houseguest was going to do something, only to have them do the complete opposite.

So I waited as we went through our usual Thursday night eviction routine. Everyone in the house seemed positive that Jeff had the power (Chima said she was 99.9 % sure he had it) but still no one knew just exactly what having this power entailed, or if the holder would even use it. Out of everyone, Jessie was the most disturbed about the looming Wizard threat, mostly because he knew that if Jeff had it and had a chance to boot him, he probably would. Jessie’s still sore at Russell for not picking him for Veto and giving him a chance to fight for his life in the house. Whatever, get over it.

Interestingly enough, the eviction episode is usually taped live, though last night they taped it several hours earlier. Word is Chima threatened to flip out and disrupt production if anyone messed with her HOH nominations, so I would think they decided to prerecord in preparation of a curse-filled, venomous rant that they would have to edit. Julie Chen went through the motions of interviewing Chima on her last day as HOH, and then she brought it down to the living room. She then reminded the houseguests about the mystery power, and asked the holder of said power to stand if they wanted to use it. Then, in a glorious moment that really needed a choir of angels, Jeff rose off the couch. Jordan’s mouth dropped open and stayed open for at least the next five minutes. Julie explained the power (you could see Chima doing everything in her power not to cut someone as a tight, fake smile spread across her face) and then Julie asked Jeff if he would like to take Lydia off the block. “I would,” replied Jeff, and a stunned Lydia took her seat on the couch. And who would Jeff be replacing her with? Natalie. Awesome. One down, one to go. Did Jeff want to take Russell off the block as well? (at this point I’m still convinced Russell thought he was going home.) “I would,” uttered Jeff, and I just about cheered. And who would be taking Russell’s place? Jeff didn’t even have to say the words – he just glanced in Jessie’s direction and said “Sorry buddy.” In an odd moment, Jessie pulled off his sweatshirt to reveal a tee shirt underneath with a picture of himself (shirtless, of course) with the caption "The Man, The Myth, The Legend". Yes, it’s true, the guy wears a tee shirt that pimps out his own self-assigned legacy - this just solidifies my desire to say “Sayonara” to him once and for all.  The only thing that would have made it juicier would be if Jessie hadn’t seen it coming and was completely blindsided. Or if Jeff had used Jessie's famous line to Casey: "Move your feet, cuz you got a new seat."

Just the sight of ego-twins Jessie and Natalie seated beside each other on the block (neither one of them has been nominated before this point), with only a few minutes to let it all sink in before they are evicted, was a portrait of beauty. It’s time for the vote. Russell and Lydia vote to keep Jessie, with the majority voting to oust him. And just like that, Jessie is yanked out of the house. That's two years in a row now that Jessie has gotten screwed by America. I wonder if he's gotten the point yet that nobody thinks he's as awesome as he thinks he is?

The HOH competition was fairly quick, with houseguests answering questions in twos, and the one with the wrong answer was immediately eliminated. Michele won by default (Jeff got the answer wrong when everyone else was eliminated, so there was no one else to go up against) and Chima was elated. What Chima doesn’t realize is that Michele probably won’t put up Jeff and Jordan. Michele has nothing against either one of them, and surely would want to see Russell gone before them. My guess for her nominations – she’ll put up Russ with either Lydia or Natalie and Jeff and Jordan will be safe another week. We’ll find out on Sunday. In the meantime, I’m going to watch Jessie’s eviction a few more times just to let the satisfaction soak in.

Women's boxing gains Olympic spot - cnn - directv

I am so happy that Women boxers will get the chance to compete for a gold medal  in London, 2012. The decision was made by the International Olympic Committee's executive board. Boxing had been the only Olympic event without any female participants.

Three women's weight classes will be added, with one of the 11 men's classes dropped to make room for them. Boxing is open and accessible to anyone with talent and commitment and it is a great reward for the hundreds of women that compete in the sport. For more on this fantastic story, tune in to cnn on Satellite TV.

What's next for Paula Abdul?

So by now we all know that Paula Abdul is not coming back to “American Idol.” Auditions have already started, so unless there’s something they’re not telling us, the show has proceeded without Abdul and no last minute offers have been made. The shows producers have stated that they are sticking to the four-judge format, yet no replacement has been named. Have the auditions commenced without a fourth judge? Or are they keeping the fourth judge’s identity under wraps? Time will tell.

Now back to Paula – many people are wondering what’s up next for the 80’s pop icon now that she’s a free agent. Abdul has stated publicly that she has no official post-Idol plans as of yet, but that she has been extended many offers. She told the Associated Press “At this point, there are so many wonderful things that are being offered to me. And I got to take a deep breath, sleep a little ... and go through everything.”

One of those offers is a spot on “So You Think You Can Dance”. Executive producer and judge Nigel Lythgoe has been vocal about having Abdul on the series in some capacity. But Abdul says she has not discussed "anything with anyone" yet. "I am not going to rule that out. I'm a dancer, a choreographer. Dance is a love of mine," she said. "It's all happening within the next couple of weeks.”

She has also filmed her second guest appearance on the Lifetime series “Drop Dead Diva” as a judge doling out support and advice to Brooke Elliott's Jane in a dream sequence. Her appearances air Sept. 13 and Oct. 11. “Drop Dead Diva” airs at 9 p.m ET/PT on Lifetime, which is channel 252 on Satellite TV.

In addition to her “Diva” appearances, sources say the ex-judge is in talks for a guest appearance on the ABC comedy series series “Ugly Betty.” Abdul would play a new temp with the fashion magazine.

Personally, I was hoping that the slightly crazy Abdul would accept a last minute deal by “Idol”, but it seems like all their negotiations have concluded and all the involved parties are moving on. The show definitely won’t have the same heart with Paula, but just as it always does, life will go on. One thing we have to remember is that “Idol” is about the talent. Every year it pulls in the ratings, and Paula Abdul is not the driving force behind those gigantic ratings. Also consider that “Idol” essentially has a new “cast” every season (and we always think this year’s group won’t be as dynamic as last year’s) yet we consistently watch and gain new favorites.

Tom Brady wants a big brood

Football star Tom Brady, who is a quarterback for the New England Patriots in Boston, MA, recently spilled to Details magazine that he would like more children.

Brady is already a father of a son, John Edward Thomas Moynahan, with whom he had with ex-girlfriend Bridget Moynahan. Brady dated the actress for a few years but they split in December 2006 after she was already pregnant with their son. Now Brady has a baby on the way with his supermodel wife Gisele Bundchen and he says he’s just getting started when it comes to his expanding his family.

“I want a lot of kids. I’d love four or five,” Tom told Details September issue. “We’ll see. It’s not always my decision.”

Tom also admitted that he and Gisele were very much alike, and that was one of t he reasons that they were introduced by a friend who set the two up on a blind date.

“This friend told me he knew a girl version of me,” Tom recalled.

Gisele added “And he said to me he’d found a boy version of me.”

“That’s not how you envisioned your life, that’s not how you envisioned having children, but it happens. Life is not living in the suburbs with a white picket fence. That’s not life,” he told the mag. “Somehow our American culture has made it out that that’s what life needs to be – and that if it’s not that, it’s all screwed up. It’s not. You go through life and you try the best you can.”

MTV ventures into scripted series

As part of an effort to offer some new and different programming, MTV has greenlit a rare scripted series. MTV is seen on channel 331 on Satellite TV.

The series is tentatively titled “Hard Times” and will consist of 12 episodes. It’s a half-hour comedy series which will chronicle the life of an unpopular teenager (think of is as a hybrid of Superbad and The Wonder Years.)

Tony DiSanto, president of programming for MTV, announced in a statement that MTV is committed to producing scripted series, and that there will be more coming in the future.

Some other shows that have been picked up by MTV include a untitled sketch comedy/reality series from actor and popular online performer Robert Hoffman (who has starred in such movies as Step Up 2: The Streets and Aliens in the Attic.); “Downtown Girls,” a reality series that follows the adventures of five funny, sexy, smart 20-somethings in New York City (think a reality version of “Sex and the City”); “Megadrive,” a reality series starring Johnny Pemberton, who attempts to travel across America without crashing and destroying some of the most extreme vehicles; and “American Idiots,” an extreme reality series produced by Ashton Kutcher, featuring people who re-enact popular viral videos for cash prizes.

Returning series for MTV are sophomore series “Teen Cribs”, daily series “Is She Really Going Out With Him” and game show series “Silent Library.”

The Academy reverses its decision to pretape Emmy award categories

The 61st Primetime Emmy Awards will air on Sunday September 20 at 8 p.m ET/PT on CBS, which can be found on channel 4 in the Boston area.

After all the hoopla surrounding the decision to pre-record certain segments of its telecast, the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has now decided against pre-recording eight award categories at its upcoming ceremony. After the decision was initially made two weeks ago (in an effort to streamline the broadcast) the industry was up in arms. Writers, directors, and producers who would be effected by the change felt it was taking away from their moment of glory. Considering they spend so much of the time behind the scenes, they are justified in wanting to be recognized for their hard work on a national broadcast. There was a letter signed  with almost 200 signatures of people who were against the change that was sent to the Academy.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the decision not to pre-record is likely but hasn’t yet been finalized. The TV Academy had come under fire from dozens of series showrunners after announcing that it would “time-shift” a batch of writing, directing, acting, and producing categories. The plan was to pre-record their awards presentations and then intersperse them throughout the live show in an attempt to shave 15 minutes off of the show running time. The Academy has no comment.

Why I love to change my Hairstyle - directv

I love changing my hairstyle. It is one of the things I can change and it makes me feel damn good to do so. Some women find a style and they are satisfied with and they stick with it. Not me!! I like to keep life interesting. One of the ways I do this is with my hair.
Life should be an adventure full of surprises. In my opinion, we should try to stretch this one life we have in to as many lives within that life as possible. I love being a chameleon. I embrace change. Getting my hair done is a therapeutic process as far as I am concerned.
For me it signifies the ends of an “era”; whether boring, painful, grueling, after a challenging time in my life etc. Changing my hairstyle helps me bounce back and leave things behind. The type of hairstyle I select has to have an impact on the way I feel about myself. Through out my life I have had at least 30 hairstyles and counting. Meaning I have lived at least 30 lives already. As I am writing this, I am also thinking about my next look. It is so much fun.
Even though the person within never changes, The hairs style I choose either highlights or suppresses certain qualities within myself. I do this by choice. Shorter hairstyles pull the seriousness out of me. Depending on the cut, it may bring out a more aggressive side of me, which is needed sometimes. A Short but curly hairstyle draws out my playful and free spirited self and suppresses the serious side to a degree. It is also easy to manage which is perfect for anyone with an overwhelming schedule.
When I change the length of the hair to make it longer, it means i have tired of my aggressive and serious side. Longer hair amplifies my feminine side as well as my versatility etc. Long curly hair brings the “diva” out of me .I am not making this up, I am sure most women can relate. The hairstyle you wear frames you depending on which one you pick. So before you change you look, look within and search for what needs changing. It may be insignificant for most people. To me it is a minor thing that makes a big impact. I could go on and on but those are some of the reasons I love to change my hairstyle.

Big Brother on CBS on DIRECTV - Tuesday August 11th recap

So just when we thought we’ve seen enough blow-ups for awhile, the Big Brother house never disappoints. Tuesday night’s episode on CBS on Satellite TV wasted no time in getting right to the drama. Here we go:

Russ tried to play nicey-nice with Chima, but now that he believes he’s leaving on Thursday (he has no idea Jeff will probably use the Coup D’ Etat) he figures he has nothing to lose. He gets right in Chima’s face again when she calls him a terrorist (her explanation: because he terrorizes everyone in the houses, not because of his Middle-Eastern descent.) Now personally, I wouldn’t think to use the word “terrorist” to describe someone who likes to terrorize people, so methinks it was just Chima backtracking and trying to cover her racist comment. The editors were not kind to Russell, complete with a montage of a few of his not-so-finer moments, and Chima of course came out smelling like a rose. Between you and me, I think they were equally at fault in the fight. I tend to side with Russell a little more because he seems to be taking the brunt from the house lately. Although he may be a bully, I think a lot of things are unfairly directed his way. Take his fight with Michele for example: Russ is still upset that Michele is denying telling him that Chima planned to backdoor him (she clearly did as they’ve reminded us with the clip of her saying it). Michele told Chima she NEVER said this, making Russ look like a liar and a pot-stirrer in Chima’s eyes. Over a friendly game of pool, Russ asked Michele to just admit she said it. She continued to deny it, and when he probed her more, she said she didn’t have a good memory. “You have P.H.D, Michele,” Russ reminded her, to which she said she wasn’t good at taking tests. Come on, Michele; just admit you said it, because you’re only making things worse. And Russ has a point – if someone told you that you said something only a few days ago, you wouldn’t have to raid the vault of your brain to recall if you said it or not. Michele is clearly just trying to cover her own butt here but she is only digging herself deeper and now her alliance with Russ is kaput. What she should have done is told Russ “Between you and me, yes I said it, but I’m trying to not start drama with Chima so let’s keep this on the down low from now on.” Denying something you clearly said only make you look devious and psychotic, for which Russ called her out on (he's noticeably frustrated with her denial and we the viewers can feel it also because we heard her say it.) Michele goes running to Chima, tells her Russ is being a bully, and that’s what kick starts Russ/Chima Showdown #2. So Russ looks like an antagonist for taunting Michele when he is only trying to get her to own up to something she said. I may not agree with everything Russ has done in this game, but I still feel for the guy and I’m on his side.

Meanwhile, Jessie is moping around the house. He’s worried about the mystery “Wizard Power” and thinks whoever has it is going to use it and send him home (you’re probably right about that, Jessie! Go Jeff!) That’s why it’s essential he competes in the Power of Veto competition – it’s the only way he can assure he can’t go on the block. He hopes he gets picked, and when Russell pulls “Houseguest’s Choice” out of the bag, Jessie is a little stunned when Russ chooses Jeff over him. As Russ said, his alliance with Jessie and crew is already dead – this just solidified it and showed the rest of the house where he stood.

The competition involved moving eggs up along a chicken wire fence until you’ve collected 12 of them (Most.Boring.Competition.Ever). Kevin won (despite Russ taunting him to fail.) Cue happy dance - Lydia is excited, you see, because Kevin is her BFF in the house and he is most definitely going to use the POV to take her off the block. Cut to Kevin telling Lydia that he doesn’t think he is going to use it, because he doesn’t want to make an enemy out of Chima and her side of the house. Lydia is sulking; she says she definitely would have used it on Kevin. Maybe she would have, who knows, but what the editors didn’t show you is all the trash talking Lydia has done to Jessie and Crew about her supposed BFF the last few weeks. So Kevin looks like a wussy as he continues to float along, but in a way he’s justified for not using the POV. After all, he did find out what Lydia was saying about him.

Jessie made an attempt to appeal to Jeff and Jordan when he told them both separately that Russ is coming after them next and they needed to be worried. Luckily, Jeff saw right through Jessie’s not-so-swift game. Both Jeff and Jordan have noticed that Jessie only talks to them when he’s panicked and thinks he’s in trouble. As if he would really care about their best interests. Kudos to Jeff and Jordan for not falling for it. And if what he said is any indication (when he said he’d just love to see Jessie and Natalie on the block together) Jeff is going to put the Coup D’ Etat to good use. If he were smart he would save both Lydia and Russell from the block, because neither one of them really has an alliance and will be grateful to Jeff for saving them. Jessie and Natalie (and to a lesser extent Chima and Michele) are all gunning for Jeff. He needs to cut the beast off at its head (Jessie) before it gets a chance to do any more damage.

Time for the POV ceremony. Kevin decides not to use the Veto on Lydia and solidifies himself as this season’s Most Useless Player Who Will Probably Float To the End. Let’s recap what Kevin has done in this game – he hasn’t won ANYTHING until now, he’s not funny, he’s not entertaining, nor is he a good strategist. Time to go now, Kevin.

Until Thursday…fingers crossed that Wizard Jeff waves his magic wand!
